HELLO, WORLD!

My name is Aaron Hernandez. I'd like to welcome you to my blog, The Daily Aaron. There’s an interesting movement happening around the world – a longing to return to the joy and creativity of yesteryear where video games and electronics were simple, unique, and highly imaginative.

Today’s graphics technology has become so realistic that it leaves little to the imagination. Video games look more like motion pictures than animated worlds. Most contemporary games and entertainment are formulaic and cookie cutter. Remakes are everywhere. What happened to original ideas?

That’s what inspired me to take on my Return to Retro Project. It started with my love of 2D video games from the 1980s and my deep dive into retro programming languages, such as Assembly, BASIC, and C.  Looking back at the original gaming consoles and video games, I am amazed at how much creativity was required to overcome the limitations of technology at the time. There were no rules back then and creativity was free range.

I invite you to join me on my journey to bring the joy of retro gaming back and follow my blog. I plan to share what I learn along the way and hope to actively engage with fellow old school game enthusiasts and developers. My goal is to start a community where we can all share our ideas and enthusiasm for developing new retro-style games that combine past technology with the latest advances to inspire a whole new genre of modern-retro gaming. Let’s do this together!

A little about me…

I currently work as a software developer at a major financial services firm during the weekdays. I graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I spend my nights exploring retro video game development, fueled by lots of coffee! I also have two adorable cats that love to program with me after work every night.
